Project Shakthi – “ Women Health (Y) Initiatives”
Background:
India is one of the few countries in the world where women and men have nearly the same life expectancy at birth, however, Indian women have high mortality rates, particularly during childhood and in their reproductive years. The health of Indian women is intrinsically linked to their status in society.
On a glimpse of statistical data it is inferred that Indian women have low levels of both education and formal labor force participation. The majority of the main workers (66.8%) are employed in agricultural and allied industrial sectors. The proportion of women employed in this sector is 80.7% compared to 62.7% for men. The data is an approximate one and there is a continuous study on the same.
Aim of Rotary to this context:
To create awareness among women on health and provide general health checkup to ensure every women is in pink of her health in order to have their family running as she is a pivot of the family.
Project Scope:
The project will cover all the Rotary clubs in District 3230. Wherein we bring in our helping hands in ensuring that we have a “shakthi” as possible in the current year.
The initial scope is to focus on creating Awareness on general checkup with comprises of Blood pressure, Diabetes, ECG, lipid profile, thyroid, breast cancer etc…. Providing Comprehensive health checkup, to assess the critical risk impacting woman’s health. Follow up level and other logistics.
Plan for the current year:
Our aspiration is to conduct one project per club and this (Project Shathi) team would help the participating club in various aspects in ensuring that the program is a success.
Expectation and Support:
In order to accomplish all of the above, the following is expected from the club.
- Participation either in total or in collaboration with other clubs in the vicinity.
- Funding to a tune of 1NR 4000 to 15000 per club towards the project
- Conduct camps in association with near by hospitals. The club in turn gets benefited by the following ways
- Better visibility in the locality for Rotary as a club Improve image of rotary in the locality, holding the rotary flag high. Increase the pride of each member as a Rotarian.
- Satisfaction for each and every member in terms of helping the needy.
|
|
In addition this project will also be important criteria for the presidential citation. (refer bullet 4 in the avenue of community service in RI presidential citation 2010 – 11)
Looking forward for active participation for each and every club, we assure that help in terms of logistics and know-how would be provided to support all the clubs participating. For further details, you may contact any of the project representatives or mail to shathi3230@gmail.com

Proposed Projects for Rotaract – Rotary year 2010 -11 By
Rtn.k. Ganesan, as told to myself. |
- Ensure we have a roster containing the names and contact details of every single Rotaractor in the district. We say it is 19000 and let us have the data base ready. It need not be in a printed or expensive form. All we need is a digital format containing the details. ( Can we use the Facebook or Orkut or any other social networking sites for bringing them together, to be explored).
- The idea is to have the database to substantiate the fact of having such a strong youth force, who are all voters, educated, young, energetic and can be moulded into powerful future leaders.
- This will help us to mobilize the help of the Corporation, Police and the Government for carrying our mega projects where we will need the help of the government agencies; ex. Help of Chennai Corporation for Beach cleaning project or Tree planting project etc.,
- The idea is to have one Mega Project involving all the 19000 rotaractors during the year, preferably during September, the New Generation Month when the exam pressure is not on them and to have four sub mega projects involving at least 5000 rotaractors at the rate of one event per quarter. ( the mega event could be the Beach cleaning project starting from Marins upto Mahabalipuram!!! Using the rotaractors of the colleges that are located all along the beach in their respective neighbourhood beach) The sub – mega could be a tree planting in the campus and neighbourhood of all the colleges and maintaining them until they grow into healthy young trees (will have aprize announced for the rotaract club that has planted, maintained and nurtured the most number of tress) b.Blood donation camps c. Aids awareness programmed. Talent promotion programmes like music contest, oratory contest, or any other vocational skill like designing, decorating the stage etc. (This talent pool can be used for all rotary clubs for their fellowships, special stage functions etc as it can be also a revenue generation exercise for the rotaractors as well)
- The fundraising programme could be to conduct a mega job fare by inviting all the major companies to participate. The media could be brought in as partners. Each entrant could be charged a nominal fee of Rs. 20 or Rs. 50 per head. This can be conducted in an airconditioned Marriage hall and will try to get it sponsored as well.
- It does not appear as though we have any physically challenged or differently abled youth in Rotaract. We wll try to have special drive to include them into the Rotaract fold as well at the college level or community level. May be we can start a new community based roraract club for them.
- Can organize a health check up or diabetics screening for the rotaractors organized, will discuss with my team of associate and co - chairman and will come back with a fine tuned version. In the meantime, though one is not sure about the financial implications and am hopeful of mustering the support of sponsors for most of the projects. I am requesting for a bydget allocation of Rs.25 lakhs from the district. Rotaractors have always been supported financially for their conference and some projects by the district.
